Natural Horsemanship Training- Saturdays, Level 1 at 4pm, Level 2 at 5pm. Please submit a complete Volunteer Application , with a memo requesting enrollment in Natural Horsemanship and we will contact you to register.
LHER is committed to training both its volunteers and its horses. We believe proper education is as important to each horse's individual success as it is to each volunteer's ability to help more horses. That's why we now offer two classes and two levels each Saturday, and a third, mixed level class to be added on Wednesdays. These informative hands-on classes help horse and LHER volunteers build a solid ground relationship based on mutual trust, respect and understanding. With a strong emphasis on safety and short term exercises for long term success, this class is sure to help you "think and talk horse" on a whole new level. Due to the overwhelming popularity of this class, please see below for details with respect to registration for the Natural Horsmanship class and other educational opportunities!
At just $15 per class (regularly $60), these sessions are a real bargain, and 100% of the proceeds go directly to LHER to continue to help horses in need. Loaner ground training equipment is available for your convenience at a rate of $5 per class. We encourage participants to purchase your own equipment as soon as possible to make sure we have enough for everyone. When you are ready to order please go to Downunder Horsemanship and purchase a rope halter, 14 foot line and stick and string. Thank you to our host barn,C entury Mill Stables for generously donating the indoor arena each and every week, and to Jen V. for her time. We at LHER are excited by the popularity of our Natural Horsemanship Series!!!
Due to high demand and space restrictions, this class is available ONLY to LHER members and volunteers, with priority given to Barn Buddies, Lucky Horse adopters, and dedicated volunteers. Auditing of these classes is free of charge for everyone and loyal auditors will be given preference for open spots as they become available. Feel free to come check it out! Because both horse and handler benefit from regular class attendance, we ask that participants reserve their spot in this class in advance with our monthly sign-ups. We also ask that you extend us the courtesy of a minimum of 48-hours advance notice (by Thursday _ 4 pm) if you will be unable to attend so that we may offer your spot to others on the waitlist. In order for our classes to run smoothly please understand that we must charge the $15 class fee (a complete tax deductable donation) if we are not given sufficient advance notice to cancel.

A special program that teams up our more seasoned volunteers with new ones. We ask that experienced volunteers offer an hour or two a week during which they can be available (if needed) to show a new volunteer the ropes and LHER routine. As you know, the training of volunteers is an ongoing and important endeavor. The more qualified we all are as handlers the more we can assist the horses as they prepare for lifetime homes. This fun program is a great way to give back with a minimal commitment and to ensure we are all on the same page.

Winter is flying by. The exciting 2010 foal season is just around the corner. Don't be surprised if you see a sweet new face (or fifteen new faces!) arriving any day now. Volunteers are always needed to assist in feeding these hungry little foals. Each volunteer will be fully trained for this responsibility and should prepare themselves for a life-changing experience, in both your life and theirs.
Another great way to help us, help horses by providing them with the mileage and training they need under saddle. In addition to our Barn Buddy, Barn Basics and Natural Horsemanship Classes LHER and CMS have teamed up once again to offer yet another unique way to educate our horses and volunteers. Are you an experienced upper intermediate/advanced rider? Do you enjoy riding a variety of horses at all levels and have time to give? Then our riders program is for you. Take a lesson on a LHER horse and CMS will generously donate 10% of its fees to LHER. This is a win, win situation, LHER horses will receive the under saddle education they need under the guidance of a quality equine professional and you advance your own skills simultaneously. For everyones safety and success, a CMS evaluation lesson is required of all participants prior to approval. Approved riders participating in weekly lessons will have the opportunity to practice ride LHER horses free of charge dependant on ring availability.
